Focus: Health , Elderly Care

FIERCELY independent Leelaben lived alone all her adult life till a fall confined the 82-year-old to a bed at the Elder Care centre. Support 25 seniors like her in need of constant care @ ₹376 each per day.

Leelaben is a fighter. After combatting societal norms by refusing marriage, she was fighting depression after a fall in the bathroom broke her hip and debilitated her. Finally her neighbours, who cared for her, sought help from Elder Care Trust.

She is not alone at the centre - there are 24 others who need help with their daily activities. Just ₹11,280 will cover the costs for one senior citizen’s care for a month

All it takes is a little bit from everyone!

Gift dignity to an elder

With increased life expectancy, the over 60s population in India is rapidly increasing. Once health starts deteriorating and medical and care costs rise, the elderly become a burden to family and friends - especially if they are on meagre incomes. A centre, like the one Elder Care provides, also addresses the loss of dignity elders have to bear when they become dependent on others for their daily activities in their twilight years.

Caregivers provide 24 hour support to patients like Leelaben.

The funds raised will be used for the medical welfare of 25 elders under palliative care. This includes the costs of a visiting doctor, physiotherapist, nurse and caregivers and a month’s supply of medicines and medical supplies like adult diapers and cotton wool. Plus, it will cover one month’s costs for milk, vegetables and other groceries for four nutritious meals provided daily

The elders at the centre have become a family over time.
