Kerala urgently needs your support.

This fundraiser has achieved 100% of its target, and will be matched by another 100% - all of which will go towards flood relief in Kerala.

Large tracts of Kerala are badly affected by the flooding caused by torrential rain. For thousands of people this means a loss of shelter, land and livelihood, especially in rural areas. With Goonj's large network and experience in disaster relief and rehabilitation they can reach out to affected areas at the earliest. Besides contributions in kind, monetary donations will help them procure essential relief materials and reach those affected.

Goonj are trying to access the most isolated locations to deliver relief kits.

An unusually heavy monsoon has caused devastating floods and landslides in Kerala. Plus, for the first time in history, it has had to open 35 of its dams to stop them bursting their banks, causing more grief to low-lying areas like Mallapuram. With a rising death toll, rescue operations to bring people to safety are in full sway and the numbers at relief camps are increasing daily. Thousands are in need of food, water, clothing and medicines.

This is the worst monsoon disaster since 1924.

Shortage of food and potable water remains a primary concern as massive rescue and rehabilitation operations take place.

Abhishyant Kidangoor, Time magazine, 16 August, 2018

When people endure natural disasters without aid, they may face a lifetime of diminished hope. Delivering disaster aid to victims quickly not only restores lost assets, but also maintains their aspirations — and invests in communities’ longer-term health.

The funds raised will be utilised in channelizing essential relief material to flood affected families and will also take care of the logistics or transport costs. Once the immediate needs are met, Goonj will continue with rehabilitation work in the affected areas.

Goonj will try and deliver contributions in kind to as many people as possible.
