About the NGO
Asmita Vikas Kendra
Founded by Pravinbhai Patel and Arunaben Patel, Asmita Vikas Kendra help individuals from low-income backgrounds break the vicious cycle of poverty and rise above their circumstances.
Their main focus is ensuring children with disabilities aren’t deprived of their rights and have access to healthcare, education, therapy and training.
To this end, AVK run a free residential school for children with disabilities in the Bharuch district. The school focuses on providing intellectually disabled children a healthy and nurturing environment, where they can learn occupational skills and feel like valued members of society.
They also run a vocational training centre for students with disabilities where teenagers learn to transform the skills they learn at school into vocational activities and thus, helping them become financially independent.
AVK’s mobile dispensary has been providing medical checkups, basic medicine and preventative care since 2003, covering more than 20 remote villages. And, they have opened an outpatient department to serve children with disabilities in the village of Trasla and its surrounding areas.
