About the NGO
Vivekananda Youth Forum
With an aim to bring about a positive change in the lives of underprivileged children, a group of young individuals formed Vivekananda Youth Forum (VYF) in 1987 under the guidance of a young monk of the Ramakrishna Mission order, Swami Someshwarananda.
Since then VYF have been empowering youth who want to make a difference to work towards securing the future of children from lesser privileged backgrounds.
VYF work with minors living in five Mumbai slums and on the streets, and with children of sex-workers in Kamathipura, the largest red-light district in the city. Without intervention and support, these youngsters grow up in an environment where their physical and mental health are at constant risk.
VYF provide formal and non-formal evening classes to children from low income families, offer vocational training and organise youth camps. Their projects focus on bringing a qualitative change in the health and cognitive development of children.
